Leanne has a real gift for taking research on memory, play-based learning, and early language development and making it practical, friendly, and doable for busy families. Each book combines evidence-based ideas with activities, templates, and printables that parents can use right away, without special equipment or expertise. Her tone is encouraging and never preachy. She reminds parents that small, everyday moments of connection matter most, and she handles screen time, AI safety, and developmental concerns responsibly. Leanne handles specialised topics such as bilingual development and early signs of autism with accuracy and sensitivity, always grounding her advice in established research and encouraging parents to seek professional guidance where needed. For any parent who wants to support their child's learning with confidence, Leanne's guides are a valuable and reassuring resource.

About Kelly

Kelly Tunny, trained in early childhood education at Macquarie University, opened her first childcare centre in 2006. Over the next two decades she established Berowra Cottage Children's Centre and Kincumber Preschool Kindergarten, then went on to build two more centres from the ground up in Cardiff and West Wallsend in the Newcastle region. She has helped thousands of young children take their first steps into learning and has guided their families along the way. She has also raised three boys, so she knows first-hand what it's like to keep curious little minds busy at home.

Description

Drifts off, rushes, forgets what you just said?

You ask them to get their shoes and they come back with a toy. Homework stops after two questions. Instructions go in one ear and out the other. It’s exhausting, for them and for you.

Focus isn’t something children either have or don’t have. It’s a set of skills that keep developing through childhood, and like any skill, they grow with practice. Focus at Home gives you a simple 20-week plan of games, puzzles and calm-down tools to practise those skills together, in just 10 minutes a day.

The 4 focus skills

👀 Look & listen: careful looking and careful listening, with search-and-circle, spot the difference and listening games.

✋ Stop & think: putting on the brakes before acting, with Simon Says, the colour-word game and Red Light, Purple Light.

🧠 Hold & switch: holding instructions in your head and switching rules, with Robot Instructions, memory trays, mazes and rule-switch puzzles.

🌿 Calm & move: a calm, active body helps the brain focus, with breathing tools, brain breaks and move-and-think games.

Everything you get

  • 200+ printable A4 pages in a bright, colourful design kids love
  • 20 weekly units, each with 5 short pages: Learn it, Look it, Play it, Stretch it and a weekly Focus Check
  • Puzzles that get harder each week: search and circle, spot the difference, odd one out, mazes, join the dots and copy the pattern
  • A game to play together every week, with the script and word lists ready in the parent strip
  • A weekly Focus Check so you can see your child’s focus improve over 20 weeks
  • 24 brain break cards, a Stop, Think, Do poster and a homework routine card
  • A focus-friendly home guide with sleep, screen time and movement tips, a progress tracker and a Focus Champion certificate

Built on Australian research

Written by Leanne Meyers, K–6 Learning Support Teacher (Special Education degree). The games and routines follow the Australian Education Research Organisation’s (AERO) guide to executive function and self-regulation, which recommends clear routines, rule-based games like Simon Says and Red Light, Purple Light, and activities that combine movement and thinking.

Home tips are based on the WA Child and Adolescent Health Service and the Australian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines. And because a Melbourne trial found that computer brain-training didn’t improve children’s schoolwork, this book practises focus with real tasks and games, done together with you. A full references page is included.

Is it right for my family?

Yes, if your child drifts off, rushes, forgets instructions, finds it hard to wait or melts down when work gets tricky. It’s also a great fit if you simply want fun, screen-free activities that build learning skills.

You don’t need teaching experience, special equipment or more than 10 minutes a day.

Our promise to you
Use Focus at Home for 14 days. If it isn’t right for your family, contact us and we’ll refund every cent. No forms, no fuss.

Questions parents ask

My child has ADHD. Will this help?
The activities are short, hands-on and game-based, which suits many children who find focus hard. This book is not a diagnosis or treatment for ADHD or any other condition. It’s designed to sit alongside, not replace, support from your GP, specialist or school.

What ages is it for?
Ages 5 to 10. Puzzles start easy and get a little harder each week.

Is it screen time?
No. Everything is printable and played together at home.

How do I get it?
Straight after checkout you’ll get a download link on screen and by email. Print what you need, when you need it.
